Kumasi: Nigerian national allegedly abandons newborn baby at Buokrom
A Nigerian national is alleged to have abandoned her newborn baby at Buokrom-Asikafo Amantem in the Kumasi Metropolis of the Ashanti Region.
According to residents, the mother, who is yet to be identified, reportedly fled the scene immediately after leaving the baby at the back of a house in the early hours of Monday, July 13, 2026.
A resident who spoke to OTEC News’ Kwawu Owusu Boateng said the woman appeared to have given birth not long before abandoning the child.
“Some residents saw her with the baby, with signs of giving birth not long ago. However, she abandoned the baby and left the area,” he stated.
He noted that residents have since rescued the baby and are working to link up with the appropriate authorities in an attempt to find the mother.
“We have notified the police about the incident and we are waiting for their response,” he added.
Police are yet to comment on the matter.
The baby is currently in the care of residents as they await intervention from social welfare and health officials.
