Kumasi traders urge government to cut taxes and stabilize cedi ahead of Mid-Year Budget review

Traders in the Kumasi Metropolis of the Ashanti Region are calling on government to reduce taxes on goods and work on stabilizing the Ghana Cedi against other foreign currencies ahead of the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review.

The Minister of Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, is set to present the Mid-Year Budget Review on Thursday.

Ahead of the presentation, OTEC News Reporter Kwame Agyenim Boateng spoke to sections of the public who shared their views.

The traders say they are struggling with high cost of goods and want government to introduce measures that will bring prices down and improve their living conditions.

“We are pleading with government to reduce the taxes on goods. The cost of doing business is too high. We also need the Cedi to be stable so prices will not keep changing every week.”

They added that a stable currency and tax relief will help reduce the cost of goods and services and ease the burden on consumers.

Many are hoping the Finance Minister will address these concerns when he presents the budget review to Parliament on Thursday.
