Asawasi: Fresh security fears at Sabon Zongo after man found dead
A man believed to be in his 40s has been found dead at a motor fitting shop at Asawasi Sabon Zongo near Otec FM in the Asokore Mampong Municipality, Ashanti Region.
The incident has raised fresh security concerns among residents who say the area is becoming increasingly unsafe.
The lifeless body was found on Thursday, July 23, 2026, in the middle of the road with blood oozing from the nose and mouth, and a swollen face.
The deceased was wearing black jeans trousers and a blue shirt at the time he was discovered.
Speaking to Otec News’ reporter, Solomon Nimoh, the Assembly Member for the Asawase Electoral Area, Hon. Alhaji Bawa, said “I received information from a passer-by at about 4:00 a.m. on the day of the incident.”
According to the assembly member, “the deceased is not known in the area.”
Some residents told Otec News that a similar incident occurred in the same area last Sunday, leaving many people worried about the recurring deaths.
They appealed to the security agencies to act swiftly.
“We are pleading with the police and other security agencies to intensify patrols and investigations to restore public confidence,” one resident said.
The incident has been reported to the police for further investigation.
It will be recalled that a 27-year-old man, Yussif Zakari, was murdered by a group of nine people at Sabon Zongo in the early hours of Sunday, July 19, 2026, at the same place.
The deceased was accused of stealing GHC4, 800.
The last Sunday killing prompted the Asokore Mampong Municipal Security Council to direct all occupants of the site to remove their structures and belongings on or before Friday, July 24, 2026, ahead of a planned demolition exercise.
In a press release issued on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, the Council said the decision was taken at its meeting on July 21, 2026 after noting a rise in illegal development of structures at Sabon Zongo, also known as Kan Bola.
The Council described the development as “a threat to the security of the Municipality.”
