The Ministry of Health has announced the immediate temporary closure of the Nursing Training College at Techiman Krobo following persistent students’ unrest and a breakdown in discipline that has disrupted academic activities and threatened safety on campus.
The statement issued and signed by Tony Goodman, Head of Health Training Institutions, on behalf of the Ministry of Health on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, the Ministry said the decision was taken after several attempts to restore order through dialogue failed to yield the desired results.
According to the statement, stakeholders, including the Regional Security Council and the Ministry of Health, held a series of meetings, counselling sessions and engagements with students in an effort to resolve the situation peacefully.
“Despite several meetings, counselling, and appeals by stakeholders, including the Regional Security Council and the Ministry, to encourage dialogue and restore order, some students have continued to engage in conduct that disrupts academic activities and threatens the peace, safety, and orderly administration of the institution,“ the Ministry stated.
The Ministry explained that the temporary closure is intended to restore calm, safeguard lives and property, and enable the appropriate authorities to assess the situation before determining the conditions for the reopening of the institution.
“The temporary closure is intended to restore calm, protect lives and property, and allow the appropriate authorities to assess the situation and determine the necessary steps toward reopening the College under conducive conditions,“ the statement added.
As part of the directive, all students have been instructed to vacate the campus peacefully and return to their respective homes by 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 29, 2026. Parents and guardians have also been advised to make the necessary arrangements for their wards.
The Ministry assured students, staff, parents and the general public that efforts are underway to resolve the issues promptly and that information regarding the reopening of the college will be communicated through official channels.
It also appealed for the cooperation and understanding of all stakeholders as authorities work to restore a safe, peaceful and disciplined learning environment.
