Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has attributed her strong working relationship with President John Dramani Mahama to mutual trust, shared objectives and a common commitment to advancing the government’s development agenda.
Speaking on the KSM Show on Friday, August 7, 2026, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang said the government’s focus was on building the country and addressing the needs of Ghanaians, rather than creating unnecessary disagreements within the leadership.
“We have a strategy. So what is there to fundamentally disagree about? To begin with, the issue is we are building the nation,” she said.
She said she understood the pressures and responsibilities associated with the presidency and therefore saw her role as supporting President Mahama in achieving the administration’s objectives.
“He will see more than we would see. He’ll face more pressures than we would. So you try to defer as much as you can,” she said.
The Vice President said her confidence in the President was grounded in her knowledge of him and the trust developed between them.
“You know that he’s not going to do anything away from the agreed objectives. You know him enough, you trust him enough, and he demonstrates that enough,” she said, adding that this understanding continued to shape her approach to working with the President.
