The Member of Parliament for Tano North, Dr. Gideon Boako, says the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, NPP, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has no preferred candidates in the upcoming Regional Executive elections.
According to him, claims that Dr. Bawumia has urged delegates to vote for particular candidates in the polls, particularly in the Ashanti Region, are false.
Speaking on Kumasi-based OTEC FM’s Afternoon Political Show Dwabrem on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, Dr. Boako said the flagbearer is only interested in party unity and not in endorsing candidates.
“Right from the polling station elections, Dr. Bawumia made it clear he will not interfere in the internal primaries to ensure unity in the party,” he stated.
“As far as I am concerned, Dr. Bawumia as the leader of the party has not declared support for any candidate, and there has not been any official communique from him to that effect,” he added.
Dr. Boako called on the public to disregard claims that Dr. Bawumia is supporting some of the candidates.
