Otumfuo grants KsTU free land lease for Vice-Chancellor’s official residence
KUMASI, August 13, 2026 — The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has granted Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) a free land lease at Danyame in Kumasi for the construction of an official residence for the University’s Vice-Chancellor.
The gesture was announced during a courtesy call by a delegation from KsTU on the Asantehene at the Manhyia Palace on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, as part of activities marking the sixth Awukudae celebration.
The delegation was led by the University’s Chancellor, Dr. Kwabena Addo Kufuor, and included the Chairman of the University Council, Prof. Edward Brenya, and the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Gabriel Dwomoh.
Expressing appreciation for the Asantehene’s continued support for the institution, Dr. Addo Kufuor said the land grant was a significant demonstration of Otumfuo’s commitment to the growth and development of KsTU.
“We are deeply grateful to Your Majesty for your generosity and your continued support for Kumasi Technical University,” Dr. Addo Kufuor said.
He noted that KsTU had risen to become the fifth most prominent tertiary institution in Ghana, attributing the university’s progress in part to the wise counsel, encouragement and support of the Asantehene.
Dr. Addo Kufuor also highlighted the achievements of female engineering students at the university, who, he said, had consistently distinguished themselves in national competitions.
According to him, the accomplishments of the students and the broader progress of the university reflected the positive impact of the Asantehene’s guidance and encouragement.
Responding to the delegation, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II acknowledged that it had been some time since his last visit to the university but assured the delegation that he continued to closely monitor KsTU’s development.
“Although it has been some time since I last visited the university, I continue to follow its progress closely,” the Asantehene said.
Otumfuo also assured the delegation of his intention to visit the university in the near future, while expressing confidence in the current leadership of KsTU.
He particularly commended the leadership under Dr. Addo Kufuor and expressed optimism that the university would continue to excel.
“I have confidence in the current leadership, particularly under Dr. Kufuor, and I believe the university will continue to achieve excellence,” Otumfuo said.
The land grant is expected to facilitate the construction of an official residence for the Vice-Chancellor and further strengthen the longstanding relationship between the Asantehene and Kumasi Technical University.
