Member of Parliament for Effiduase-Asokore, Dr Nana Ayew Afriye, has congratulated Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, popularly known as COKA, on his election as Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Dr Ayew Afriye has also called on all members of the party in the Ashanti Region to put the regional elections behind them and unite behind the newly elected executives as the party prepares for the 2028 general elections.
In a congratulatory message following Saturday’s regional elections, he said the outcome had demonstrated the democratic strength of the NPP, but stressed that the party’s collective interest must now take precedence over individual ambitions.
“I take this opportunity again to extend my warmest congratulations to Chairman Odeneho Kwaku Appiah (COKA) and all the newly elected executive officers chosen by the Ashanti regional delegates,” he said.
COKA emerged victorious in the regional chairmanship contest, polling 658 votes to defeat his main contender, Dr Henry Kwabena Kokofu, who obtained 269 votes.
According to Dr Ayew Afriye, the conclusion of the election should mark the beginning of a new phase of unity and rebuilding within the party.
“The contest is now behind us, and our paramount focus must immediately shift toward the collective good of the New Patriotic Party,” he stated.
He urged both winners and unsuccessful aspirants to set aside their differences and contribute their experience, talent and resources towards strengthening the party’s structures across the region.
“Securing victory for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and the NPP in the 2028 presidential election demands the active contribution, talent, and dedication of both the victors and those who did not prevail,” he said.
Dr Ayew Afriye expressed optimism that the NPP could return to government in 2028, stressing that a united Ashanti Region would be critical to achieving that objective.
He therefore appealed to party supporters to rally behind COKA and the other newly elected executives to build a stronger and more resilient party capable of reclaiming political power.
“Let us rally behind the entire executives for a unified and resilient Ashanti party ready to deliver victory for the NPP,” he added.
