Lands ministry commissions 8-storey Minerals Commission office in Ashanti Region
The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has commissioned an eight-storey ultramodern office complex for the Minerals Commission in the Ashanti Region.
According to the Ministry, the office forms part of government’s efforts to decentralize the operations of the Commission, ensure sustainable management and swift policy enforcement in the mining sector.
In his keynote address on Monday, the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, underscored government’s resolve to transform the country’s mineral resources.
In a speech read on his behalf by his Deputy, Dr. Alhaji Yussif Sulemana, he said centralization of the Commission’s services in Accra over the years created significant inefficiencies, forcing major stakeholders to travel long distances.
He noted that narrative has now changed with the commissioning of the new office, adding that it was necessary to give the Minerals Commission the needed push considering its huge contribution to the national economy.
He commended President John Dramani Mahama for his role in ensuring the project was completed.
For his part, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, Kenneth Ashigbey, commended government for showing continuity.
He said decentralization of the Commission’s operations will enhance supervision, curb illegal mining, and ensure compliance in ways that were not possible from Accra alone.
He noted the office and its operations will promote more responsible mining as clients can easily access its services.
