AI will improve efficiency, speed up justice delivery – Justice Amoako Asante
Supreme Court judge nominee, Justice Edward Amoako Asante, has advocated for the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into Ghana’s judicial system, arguing that the technology could significantly improve efficiency and help expedite the determination of cases.
Justice Amoako Asante said AI presents an opportunity for the judiciary to modernise aspects of its operations, particularly in areas such as legal research, case management and the processing of information.
He made the remarks on Thursday, August 27, 2026, when he appeared before Parliament’s Appointments Committee for his vetting following his nomination by President John Dramani Mahama to the Supreme Court.
Responding to questions on the potential application of technology in the justice delivery system, Justice Amoako Asante expressed strong support for the adoption of AI, describing it as an inevitable development that institutions around the world are increasingly embracing.
He said his experience at the ECOWAS Court of Justice had exposed him and other judicial officers to the growing use of AI and related technologies, including training provided to judges and staff.
“AI is the way to go now and the world has gone AI and there is nothing anybody can do. We have had some training in AI at the ECOWAS court, both judges and the staff.
“It was everywhere we went so basically, if the Chief Justice seeks my inclusion for it to be done, why not, because I have some knowledge in it.
“It is a matter of trying to get people to set it up for us. The algorithm is built for you and it is tailor-made. It is a system that can easily be done and once it is done, it will bring efficiency into our judiciary system. Cases will be dealt with fast and research can be done through it as well but it is all about the finances.”
