Photos: Kumasi welcomes Otumfuo Osei Tutu II home in grand style

His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, has been given a grand and colourful welcome by the people of Kumasi following his return from the United States of America, where he engaged in activities that further projected Asanteman and Ghana on the international stage.

The welcome was jointly organized by the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council, Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, Manhyia Palace, Asanteman Council and residents of Kumasi to celebrate the Asantehene’s safe return home.

His visit to the United States included the celebration of Akwasidae and other engagements aimed at promoting Ghanaian and Asante culture globally.

Upon his arrival at the Prempeh I International Airport on Thursday, September 3, 2026, Otumfuo was received with a colourful ceremonial parade by the security services and welcomed by traditional leaders, government officials and hundreds of residents.

The Asantehene then embarked on a grand procession through principal streets of Kumasi, passing through Dichemso, Krofrom, Suame Roundabout, Abrepo Junction, Bantama, Gee Roundabout, Kejetia, Central Police Station, the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, WAEC and Asewase before arriving at the Manhyia Palace.

Some residents who spoke to Adom News expressed their joy and pride at welcoming Otumfuo back home after his engagements in the United States.

The colourful reception has turned parts of Kumasi into a scene of celebration, with residents lining the streets to catch a glimpse of the Asantehene as he makes his way through the city.

 

At the palace, traditional rites, music and cultural displays were performed to officially welcome and give thanks for his safe return, creating an atmosphere filled with cheers and celebration.
