Police arrest gold dealer robbery syndicate; retrieve AK-47 rifles in Ashanti, Western Regions
The Ghana Police Service has arrested a robbery syndicate that has been attacking gold dealer shops, retrieving three AK-47 assault rifles, 357 rounds of ammunition, two vehicles and five magazines in two regions.
One of the suspected robbers, according to police, died during the operations.
According to police, five suspected armed robbers were arrested at Manso and Abofuor Camp in the Ashanti Region, and Wassa Akropong, Diaso and Dome in the Western Region.
The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, said at a press conference on Monday that three AK-47 rifles and ammunition were retrieved from the suspects.
“The Ghana Police Service between August and September 2026 conducted a special operation dismantling the robbery gang,” he said.
“These suspects are responsible for a number of attacks targeting gold dealers, mining sites and communities in their operational area,” the IGP added.
He named the suspects arrested as Clinton Mawuli, Richmond Mensah (Master Abbey), Daniel Sarfo (Abedi), Prince Duker, and Seidu Salifu who died during the operations.
He noted that Seidu Salifu was already standing trial in connection with the robbery of gold bullion at Offinso Abofuor.
He assured that the Ghana Police Service will continue its operations to ensure maximum protection of lives and property.
