President John Dramani Mahama has disclosed that an initial $2 billion is ready for the commencement of the Accra-Kumasi Expressway project.
According to him, the money is currently lodged in a special account at the Bank of Ghana, awaiting disbursement for the project.
He made this known on Monday, September 14, 2026, when the Ghana Armed Forces officially handed over a report on the 175.6 km cleared Right of Way to the Ministry of Roads and Highways.
The official handing-over ceremony, held at Kwaso in the Ejisu Municipality of the Ashanti Region, brought together representatives from the Presidency and the Ministries of Defence, Roads and Highways, and Finance, among other stakeholders.
Addressing the gathering, President Mahama underscored government’s commitment to completing the project as pledged.
He noted that the project is fully funded by the Government of Ghana.
He added that the expressway will be linked with both the Accra and Kumasi Outer Ring Road projects to ensure coordinated movement within the two cities.
