National Security arrest 15 over alleged sandwinning on Accra-Kumasi Expressway

National Security personnel in the Ashanti Region have arrested fifteen individuals for their alleged involvement in sand winning activities on the Kumasi–Accra Expressway project.
The suspects, all males, were apprehended in the Sewua–Donyina–Appiadu enclave during a swoop by officers of the National Security on Wednesday, October 14, 2026.
Six trucks, including a wheel loader, were also impounded during the raid in the enclave.

An Assistant Liaison Officer, Ivan Bilson Yeboah, says the suspects have been transported to the National Security head office in Accra for custody and further investigations.
He disclosed that the activities of the sand winners were obstructing work on the strategic expressway project and causing damage to sections of the road.
Mr. Yeboah warned that his outfit will not relent in clamping down on individuals whose activities threaten major government projects in the region.
He further assured that those found culpable after investigations will be made to face the full rigours of the law to serve as a deterrent to others.
