KMA, military task force begins operation to decongest KATH roundabout

A task force made up of Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) city guards and military personnel has begun an operation to decongest the stretch between the Bekwai Roundabout and the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) roundabout.
The exercise has resulted in the confiscation of traders’ items and the impounding of commercial vehicles found loading and dropping off passengers along the stretch.
The operation follows a final warning issued by the Assembly to commercial drivers operating around the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital roundabout to vacate the area before November 1, 2026.
The stretch, which is one of the busiest in the Kumasi metropolis, serves as a major access route to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
Ambulances and other vehicles transporting patients to the facility often struggle to navigate the area due to congestion caused by commercial and private vehicles.
Despite the presence of no-parking and no-stopping signs, some commercial drivers routinely load and offload passengers along the stretch, obstructing the free movement of traffic.
Meanwhile, some of the affected drivers and traders have expressed dissatisfaction with the exercise.
