The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has announced that transport fares have been increased by 10 per cent effective Monday, 4 June 2018.
Transport fares have been increased by 10% effective Monday June 4, 2018. This was announced in a statement by the Road Transport Operators.
Transport operators have been asked to comply with the new fares and post same at their loading terminals so as to avoid any confrontation with the travelling public.
The statement further urged Commuters and the General Public to kindly cooperate for the successful implementation of the new fares.
The National Vice-President of GPRTU, Robert Sarbah, told newsmen on Friday, 1 June 2018 that the Union, in consultation with other stakeholders, including the Ministry of Transport, arrived at the new fares after factoring the rising cost of fuel into their pricing.
He said the prices of spare parts and other transport-related services have also gone up, justifying an increase in fares.
