Kumasi: Krofrom Trinity gas explosion death toll rises to two

One more person has died following the gas explosion at Krofrom in Kumasi in the Ashanti region. The second victim of the explosion died at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital Wednesday morning.
Ashanti Regional Minister Simon Osei-Mensah who visited the scene Wednesday, 21 November 2018 said he had directed that the Krofrom gas filling station which exploded on Tuesday be shut down way before the disaster occurred.
He said the order was given in 2017 when he visited the fuel station.Mr Osei-Mensah visited the disaster scene to assess the extent of damage caused by the explosion.
He said he will be investigating the matter to know whether the gas station had a permit to operate.
Meanwhile, officials of the National Petroleum Authority and Environmental Protection agency have arrived at the scene of explosion as investigations continue into the accident.
The gas station is situated in a residential area surrounded by schools, churches and a car washing bay.
Residents in the area are calling for the immediate relocation of the gas station. Some residents who had gone to pick up their wards at a school located right next to the gas station asked government to intervene.
