Central Ghana Conference SDA Church launches 50th anniversary

The Central Ghana Conference (CGC) of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church (SDA) has launched its 50th anniversary celebration in Kumasi with a call on Ghanaians particularly church members to emulate the selfless attitude portrayed by their predecessors.

The president for CGC Pastor Yaw Asamoah Kwarteng who made the call said, the SDA Church in the last 50 years have contributed massively to the development of Ghana due to the high level of commitment on the part of church leaders and members.

The year-long celebration, which was officially launched last Saturday, March 16  ,2019 at the forecourt of the church at Kwadaso by Pastor Ellie Wieck Dido was under the theme, “In The Spirit Of The   Pioneers”

Pastor Ellie Wieck Dido during the launch expressed gratitude to past leaders of the church who dedicated their entire lives to the cause of Adventism in Ghana.

He called for collaborative efforts from present leaders and members of the church to built strong on the good legacy left behind by previous leaders.

Giving a brief history of the church a formal president for the Central Ghana Conference Pastor M.A Bediako said SDA Ghana is the first SDA Church in Africa to get independence (first conference) from foreign missionaries in 1970.

He noted that the conference after it’s establishment was pivotal in three focus areas including Evangelism, Education and Health.

Touching on some of the success chalked by the church in the last golden jubilee, the formal CGC president said the SDA Church is the first religious institution to establish the first private university in Ghana in the shape of Valley View University. He added that the church under the auspices of CGC has also build over 100 basic schools, Senior High schools and tertiary institutions combined.

Pastor M.A Bediako again noted that, as part of efforts to expand and spread evangelism mission in every society, the Church has established several branches around the country.

Speaking to OTEC news Kwame Agyenim Boateng (Nana Kokooto) President for CGC Pastor Yaw Asamoah Kwarteng   said, activities lined up for the year by the (CGC) include clean up exercises in May 2019 which according to him is  in conformity with  president Akufo Addo’s aim to make Ghana clean.

There would also be a tree planting exercise in June to keep Kumasi city green.

Pastor Asamoah Kwarteng again disclosed that the month of  July  has been declared as Health Awareness Month, to be marked with activities such as blood donation, health talk, health walk and keep fit exercises.

There would also be an  Evangelistic Campaign in the month of October and November  to win more souls for God

The anniversary celebration would be climaxed in the first week of February 2020  to mark the Golden Jubilee of the Central Ghana Conference.

Pastor Ellie Wick Dido formally declared the year-long celebration dully launched.

In a goodwill message the Municipal Chief Executive for Kwadaso municipality, Hon.Richmond Agyenim Boateng commended the church for supporting the country in developmental projects, he  advice the church not to relent in its efforts of winning and preparing souls for the second coming of Christ.
