Muslims begin Ramadan today

Muslims in Ghana are joining Muslims around the world to begin the 30-day fasting today, Monday 5 May 2019.

This was after authorities in Saudi Arabia announced spotting the Ramadan 1440 moon.

The UAE also officially confirmed that Ramadan 1440 will begin today – after the Ramadan crescent was sighted in UAE on Sunday morning.

The fast is to enhance the spiritual growth of all Muslims.

Ramadan is a compulsory tenet of the Islam religion and followers are encouraged to observe it except for those who have special medical conditions that may prevent them.

Over 1.8 billion Muslims across the world are expected to embark on this year’s fast – a pillar of Islam.
