NaBCo trainees to demonstrate Friday

A group of trainees of the Nation Builders Corps (NaBCo) known as the Coalition of NaBCo Trainees, has planned a demonstration for Friday, 31 May 2019.

The demonstration will begin from the Obra Spot at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra.

The recruits say they have not been paid their stipend since they started working several months ago.

In a statement, the group explained: “The decision to embark on a demonstration is driven by the resentment trainees have harboured since we subscribed onto this initiative”.

The group said management inefficiencies, a lack of fairness, the absence of an acceptable standard of recognition, as well as the lack of enthusiasm and vitality in addressing their concerns, have conspired to force them to hit the streets.

The group has vowed never to compromise its stance once its members hit the streets.

The group is demanding the payment of all arrears due the trainees from November 2018 to February 2019 in addition to their March 2019 and April 2019 stipends “to put them at par with their regular colleagues”.

The trainees, most of whom say they are indebted to MTN Quickloan, Fido Loan, and other creditors, added that they had to use their March stipends which were recently paid to service their loans. “We, therefore, demand the immediate addition of the April stipends to cushion them”, as well as the “payment of May on time and subsequent regularisation.”

The group warned that should the management of the NaBCo fail to accede to its members’ demands, “demonstrations will be the order of the day”.
