President Salutes Women On International Women’s Day

The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has, on the occasion of International Women’s Day, commended the effort of Ghanaian women in their various fields of endeavor, which have contributed to the development of the country.

The International Women’s Day is a day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women, and to also mark a call to action for accelerating gender parity.

Speaking at a ceremony held at the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection in Accra, the President reiterated government’s commitment to empower women in trade and education, as well as in other diverse sectors of the economy in which they find themselves.

The programme was held under the theme, “Economic Empowerment of Rural Women; A Tool for Sustainable Development in a Changing World of Work”.

According to the President, the Free Senior High School Policy is one of the several incentives to be rolled out by government to better the lot of women and empower them to be more productive.

The President indicated that “women are the dominant population in the country”, as such, “the development of Ghana is to a large extent hinged upon the welfare and empowerment of women”.

On her part, the Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection Ms. Otiko Afisa Djaba congratulated the President for his concern towards issues bothering women and said a similar event is being replicated across the country alongside other activities.

This year’s International Women’s Day is being marked worldwide under the theme “ Be Bold for Change”.
