Juaben MP, Ama Pomaa Boateng breaks silence on MCE brouhaha

Hon Ama Pomaa Boateng, Juaben MP and Deputy Minister for Communications and Digitalisation

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Juaben and Deputy Minister for Communications and Digitalization, Hon Ama Pomaa Boateng says her silence about the unending controversies in her constituency is because of the respect she has for the President and the Omanhene of Juaben.

Speaking to this reporter Wednesday morning, Hon Pomaa said the recent brouhaha about the nomination and the botched attempt to confirm the nominee of the President had arisen through no fault of hers.

According to her, the choice of the President didn’t sit well with her since the nominee had worked against her for the past 8 years but as a consummate patriot and democrat she decided to go with the President who she has an over 40 year relationship with, noting that she did all she could to ensure the nominee Alex Safo Kantanka was endorsed in the confirmation exercises.

The failure of the nominee to get the needed numbers to secure confirmation, she noted, was through no fault of hers since she had days before the second election met to persuade and settle any issues that lied between the elected assembly members and the nominee popularly called ‘’Aluta”.

‘’It’s common knowledge that the nominee was not my favorite but since the President had nominated him everyone in the NPP party had to support to ensure he was confirmed even though only assembly members had the power to decide the fate of the nominee’’, Hon Pomaa explained.

DETAILS:

The MP, an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) expert said prior to the first confirmation ceremony where the nominee got 6 votes for ‘YES’ and 20 votes for ‘NO’, she was present at the hall but got blamed for what transpired even though she was not a voter.

The female legislator said in the second election, she had to cut short her business trip abroad and rush back to Juaben only to be told the nominee didn’t appear for the process.

She recalled that the third ceremony which should have produced an election was also called off due to the presence of some strange military persons; an incident that warranted the holding of a 4th sitting to get the nominee confirmed whose details is now public knowledge.

Sounding teary, the Deputy Minister wondered what again she could have done in all the scenarios narrated to get the nominee elected when she had no voting rights or power to force the assembly members to do what she had asked them in an earlier meeting which was extensively covered by the press.

‘’My brother I do not have voting rights or the power to force the will of these enlightened adults who by virtue of their positions are the ones to either confirm or reject the President’s choice so I am surprised they make me an easy target for blame’’, the legislator wondered.

Hon Pomaah also clarified that the presence of the Atwima Nwabiagya South MP, Emmanuel Agyei Anhwere at Juaben was to check on caucus members of the NPP in Parliament whose areas had MMDCEs confirmation processes to deal with.

RESOLVE:

Speaking with some passion, Hon Pomaa said despite the name calling and untruths being peddled in the constituency and on the airwaves about her, she was committed to using her talent and good influences to develop the human resource capital in Juaben.

She said her interest is to make sure that the party’s base stays united and attractive after the MCE nomination and confirmation processes.

Hon Pomaa promised to support whoever the President would nominate again for the position of MCE and just as she supported the previous MCE and the assembly members of Juaben in the government’s first time she would replicate the same in this second term.

In conclusion, the MP rallied the people to be positive minded and resolve to collectively help in the development of Juaben to become a prosperous municipality.

‘’My interest is to make sure that the party’s base still stay united and attractive after this process and just as in the previous one”, the MP passionately stressed
