New Kejetia Market stinks as Traders brace themselves in looming pandemics
A major pandemic is looming at the New Kejetia Market in the Kumasi Metropolis of the Ashanti as sewage waste from a pipe burst has been spilling over at the facility for three days.
The forecourt of the main administration block looked very unsightly with waste water flowing at the area when OTEC News visited the Facility on Tuesday September 26, 2022.
The area, according to the traders smells like rotten egg and dead carcass making life unbearable for them in the past three days.
The aggrieved traders in an interview with OTEC News Kwame Agyenim Boateng accused the management of the market of poorly handling sanitation issues in the area.
They claimed that, the pipe burst occurred about three days ago at the full glare of the managers but they failed to attend to it.
The Chairman of Eleven Member Steering Committee of the Kumasi Central Market (a mother Bodie of all traders working in the facility) Mr Kwabena Fosu called for the head of manager of the market Mr Kwabena Duffour.
He noted that Mr Duffour’s administration has failed to see the periodic maintenance of the market causing hiccups in trading activities at the multimillion dollar facility.
“The scent is very disgusting, and it’s not surprising because the pipe in question carries raw sewage”
” The market is an enclosed facility with which is already hot, and so allowing this smell to penetrate the area for three good days shows clearly that there is no competent management here”
