A/R: Parliament’s health Committee visits Health facilities
The Parliamentary select committee on health is touring the various health facilities in Ashanti region to grab first hand information about the challenges in the sector and make recommendations to government.
Addressing the select committee, Ashanti Regional health director Dr. Alexis Numfeba enumerated the challenges facing the institutions in the country which is not different from the challenges the other facilities are facing which includes payment of utility, national health insurance recovery, accommodation for staff, transformational problem for monitoring, infrastructures, logistics and many more.
The chairman for the select committee, Hon. Dr. Kwabena Twum Nuama assured the staff of the health ministry that they have noted all the challenges health institutions in the region face and are therefore going to deliberate on it in parliament with hope of finding a quick and lasting solution to them.
We will treat the challenges with the urgency they deserve because the health sector is very crucial for a developing country like Ghana.
Hon. Twum Nuama noted the proliferation of unregistered herbal medicines and treatments as one of the major challenges health institutions face adding that, most of the herbal medicines do not go through the necessary headquarters like the food and drugs authority for proper scrutiny.
He also blamed the media partly for providing the platform for these quacks to promote their products.
He therefore cautioned the media houses to be professional by making sure that they have the proper documentation from the food and drugs board before giving them the opportunity to sell their products.
