Investigate ECG concession agreement, civil society organisation petition US embassy
A leading member of the Coalition of Civil Society Organisations kicking against the concession of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) Mr. Richard Asante-Yeboah has written to the US Embassy for it to look into what he says are unethical acts in the ongoing private participation in the ECG.
In a letter dated 20th September 2016, and addressed to the US Ambassador, the petitioner brought to the attention of the US government concerns meant to be official complaints of illegal/unlawful acts, and forgery/fraud in processes in the ongoing concession for the management of, operations of, and investments in the electricity distribution business of the ECG.
The petition further noted that it is against the Millennium Development Authority(MiDA) and the International Finance Corporation(IFC) playing critical lead roles in the ongoing Private Sector Participation(PSP) in the ECG concession.
Besides the latest petition to the US government, the anti- ECG concession group has also initiated a legal action set by the coalition to battle the fraudulent deals imminent in the move.
This comes after complaints about what it calls fraud and forgery noticed in the concession deal citing the Draft Tariff Methodology document of the PURC and a statement in the name of the Energy Commission to which the PURC and the commission have both issued disclaimers on it.
