Power cuts to end in March – ECG

The current power cuts being experienced in some parts of the country will end in the first week of March, according to the Electricity Company of Ghana.

Several parts of Accra and other parts of the country have in recent weeks experienced severe power cuts triggering fears that the power crisis that bedeviled the country some years ago is gradually returning.

On Wednesday, the entire Kumasi Metropolis in the Ashanti region was in darkness for several hours. No explanation has been given for the power cuts by authorities.

However, speaking on Accra FM Friday, Eric Asante, Public Relations Officer of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Accra West said there are some challenges with transmission and distribution being addressed.

He added that until those challenges are addressed the power cuts will continue.

“We have some distribution and transmission challenges at the moment. The distribution has to do with the ECG and the transmission of the power to ECG is the work of GRIDCo, but there are some challenges we are fixing to ensure that outages stop.”

“By the first week of March that level of outages we are experiencing at the moment will stop.”
