4 killed in robbery attacks on 6 fuel stations in Tamale in two weeks

Managers of Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) operating in the Tamale Metropolis have expressed their frustration over recent attacks by armed robbers at their fuel outlets.

Six fuel stations have been attacked within two weeks.

These include a Shell fuel station at Kakpayili, two Naagamni fuel stations at Kanshegu and Kasalgu, and Superior Oil fuel station at Datoyili.

The suspected robbers killed four pump attendants, a driver and a security guard.

The most recent attack occurred at the Kakpagyili Shell filling station on Saturday, January 27, 2018, where the security guard was killed.

The Managing Director of the Shell fuel station, Osman Mohammed, told Citi News that the operation which began at their station at 2:00am, lasted for three hours.

According to him, the pump attendants were tied up in the mini-mart, while the security man’s corpse was found behind the main building. Osman Mohammed attributed the situation to security lapses, and appealed to the police patrol teams to intensify their night patrols in the area.

Area Manager of Naagamni Oil Marketing Company, Razak Nuhu, whose two stations were also robbed admonished the police to be proactive.

He said some of the pump attendants were beaten to pulp, and were receiving treatment at various hospitals.

Razak Nuhu said the armed robbers bolted with unspecified amounts of their daily sales.

The supervisor of the Kakpagyili Shell filling station, Yidana Abdul Fatawu, said they had been traumatized by the incident.

He revealed the resignation of three pump attendants following the deadly incident.
