Juaben MCE nominee rejected for the third time

The assembly members of the Juaben Municipal Assembly have for the third time rejected the president’s nominee for the metropolitan chief executive (MCE) position.

Alexander Sarfo Kantanka failed to obtain the two-thirds threshold needed to be confirmed as MCE for Juaben Municipal  Assembly in the Ashanti Region.

He polled a total of 10 ‘YES’ votes as against 15 ‘NO’ votes while a ballot was reject.

Per the local government laws, the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo would have to re-nominate another person for the post.

Twenty out of the 26 assembly members boycotted the process last Friday, citing heavy security presence at the venue.

In a related development, the MCE nominee for East Gonja Municipal Assembly, Mohammed Tamimu, has also been rejected for the second time having polled nine ‘YES’ votes as against 25 ‘NO’ votes.

Over a 100 security personnel drawn from the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Prison Service, and the Ghana National Fire Service, were detailed to the assembly to provide security for the exercise to avoid any chaos.Tamimu has served in the same capacity in the past four years.
