Driver, 22, jailed  six months for assaulting Prison Officer

Asokwa District court 2 has sentence a 22 year old taxi driver, Danso Joseph, to six months imprisonment for abetment of crime to wit causing harm, on Friday, June 1, 2018.

The court presided over by His Worship Owusu Achiaw Korkor, sentence the accused after he had pleaded guilty to the charge leveled against him.

Presenting the facts of the case, the police prosecutor Inspector, Prince Kaar Dammir told the court that  on 6th May, 2018, two Prison officers, Lance corporal Azumah Nel and William Nortey boarded a taxi cab with registration number GW 36 51- W at Gyinase, to be alighted at Adum, all suburbs of Kumasi.

“On their way the accused wanted to pick another passenger in the already full taxi, which the complainants opposed and as a result, the accused took them back to Gyinase where he picked them. Upon arrival at the ‘picking spot’, the accused raised an alarm shouting and calling the complainants thieves. The situation drew the residents’ attention and they attacked the prison officers,” he narrated.

“One of the complainants, William Nortey, managed to escape and lodge a complaint at Asokwa Police station and police were able to rescue Lance corporal Azumah Nel from being lynched by the mob, and the accused was arrested on May 11, 2018” Inspector Prince Kaar Dammir continued.
