Upcoming Excellence Awards To Recognise Talented Youth – Joyland Dedey Explains

Joyland Dedey Mensah, initiator of AMS Excellence Awards and Marketing Students President at UPSA 2023-2024

AMS Excellence Awards, an initiative from Joyland Dedey, a youth advocate and student leader will on 2nd July, 2024 celebrate Ghanaian youth for their display of excellence and hard work.

It will also be used to uncover hidden talents and creativity among students, and connect them with opportunities in the corporate world.

Speaking to this reporter ahead of the event, Miss Dedey said the awards are aimed at providing a platform for young people to shine and demonstrate their capabilities.

She noted youth who would want to be awarded and participate in the event are required to submit a video explaining why they deserve the award, which helps to uncover hidden talents and present them to the public.

The theme, ‘Connecting Talents and Opportunities Together,’ she said resonates deeply, recognizing the importance of empowering young people to reach their full potential and make a meaningful impact in their communities.

Vision:

Joyland Dedey, is a passionate advocate for youth empowerment who is determined to change the narrative for students who struggle with low self-esteem due to their background and financial difficulties.

Despite their potential, she said most youth often hide their talents and abilities out of fear and judgment from others.

Joyland encourages young people to develop their skills and gifts, no matter how small they may seem, and regardless of their background or what others may think.

Their dreams will manifest if and only if they take the steps, she encouraged.

Journey In Life:

Joyland’s journey as a youth advocate began in junior high school.

She faced numerous challenges, including people looking down on her and discouragement due to her humble background.

Yet, she persevered and continued to work hard towards her goals.

Today, she stands proud, having overcome many obstacles and remaining committed to her passion for empowering young people.

Her story is a testament to the power of resilience and determination, and she hopes to inspire others to do the same.

Exploits:

During her tenure as Vice-President and then President of the Association of Marketing Students (AMS) from 2022-2024 at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), Joyland identified and realized that many hidden potentials and creativities among students go unseen and unnoticed.

As a catalyst for change, she aims to leverage this realization to help people recognize and harness their full potential.

She believes that by encouraging others to develop their skills, no matter their background, they can overcome self-doubt and achieve their dreams.

In addition to her roles at UPSA, Joyland has held various other positions, including Youth Member of Parliament (YLP), Volta Regional Coordinating Director (YLP), Deputy Minority Whip (YLP), Head of Protocol Team at Youth in Business Network, Head of Protocol Team at Beauty from Ashes.

She was also UMB Ambassador, Classic Award Ambassador, National Tertiary Excellence Award Ambassador, West Link Award Ambassador, First Deputy Clerk UPSA Parliament, SRC WOCOM Representative, Marketing Courses Representative,

Other roles were at Barcenta Leader First Love Church, Arrivers Member First Love Church, Airport Star First Love Church, Organizer of David Douglas Leadership Forum, Marketing WOCOM Committee Member, Academic Prefect SHS, Debating Club P.R.O SHS, Debating Club President SHS, and Girls Prefect JHS.

These experiences have further fueled her dedication to youth empowerment and her commitment to making a positive impact.

The journey to success is not without its challenges, including discouragement and disappointment.
