KNUST to revert Katanga, Conti to all male halls

The Vice-Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Professor Kwasi Obiri Danso has finally patched up his differences with student leaders of the institution and is set to restore Katanga and Conti back to their former status as all male halls barring any last minute changes

Earlier this week, otecfmghana.com gathered that Executives of Unity and University halls together with the SRC President met with the VC, former Dean and the head of legal affairs for KNUST to deliberate on restoring the halls back to normalcy that is, being all male halls and other grievances.

The KNUST was closed down indefinitely following violent protests by students on Monday 22 October 2018 against what they referred to as the brutalities being meted out to them by KNUST security services.

The students under the guise of having a peaceful walk and to present their grievances to the university authorities rather went on the rampage, attacked the main security office and caused damage to several cars, furniture whiles a number of motorbikes were also set ablaze.

The students in their numbers then matched on to the main administration block of the university where more than 20 private cars belonging to the staff of the university were greatly damaged as the reception of the main administration block was totally vandalized.

Following this, the institution was closed down and management reconstituted to pave way for grievances to be addressed.

Last week, the Academic Board chaired by the Vice Chancellor announced a new academic calendar for the University following the disruptions.
