Owabi River accident: 5-year-old girl still missing after 12 hours – Hon Bobie Ansah
A devastating accident on the Owabi River in the Ashanti Region has claimed four lives, with a 5-year-old girl, Doreen Yasan, still missing.
According to Hon. Bobie Ansah, Presiding Member for Atwima Nwabiagya North District, the girl has been missing for over 12 hours after the vehicle she was in veered off the Dabaa-Akropong road and plunged into the river.
The tragic incident occurred when the private Toyota Vitz car, carrying the driver and several passengers, lost control and entered the overflowing river due to recent rains.
The deceased include the driver, her two daughters, a plumber, and a lady teacher from Akropong Roman Catholic Basic School.
A combined rescue team from the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Fire Service, and Police worked tirelessly to retrieve four bodies from the river on Tuesday morning.
Speaking to Captain Koda on the Nyansapo Show, on Wednesday October 30, 2024 Hon Bobie Ansah said Local chiefs are collaborating with authorities to locate the missing girl.
The community remains in shock, and concerns are being raised about the safety of the river and surrounding roads.
The search for Doreen Yasan continues, with hopes of finding her safe and reunited with her family.
