President Mahama’s delegation pays condolence visit to wife of late Dr. Samuel Sarpong

A delegation from the office of President John Dramani Mahama, led by Ashanti Regional Minister Hon. Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has visited the wife of the late Dr. Samuel Sarpong, who tragically lost his life in a helicopter crash at Sikaman in the Ashanti Region on August 6, 2025.

Dr. Sarpong, a former Kumasi Mayor and Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), was among eight prominent individuals who perished in the unfortunate incident.

 The others included Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Deputy National Security Coordinator Limuna Muniru, former parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye, and three military personnel.

During the condolence visit, Dr. Amoakohene officially informed the family about the tragic incident and commiserated with them.

He described the incident as unfortunate and consoled the wife and family.

The Ashanti Regional Minister noted that President Mahama has sent a word of condolence to the family and announced that a book of condolence has been opened for well-wishers to mourn with the family.

President’s Condolence Message

President Mahama is saddened by the tragic loss of life and will continue to mourn with the family during this difficult time.

The family has received an outpouring of support from relatives, party members, neighbors, and church congregants, who have gathered at their residence in Kumasi to pay their respects.

Tributes to Dr. Sarpong

Dr. Sarpong was a seasoned politician and public servant who served in various leadership roles, including Ashanti Regional Minister and Central Regional Minister under President Mahama’s administration.

He was widely respected for his calm demeanor, loyalty to the party, and commitment to public service

The NDC has described Dr. Sarpong’s passing as a “monumental loss to the party and the nation”.

 Funeral arrangements are yet to be announced, as the party and family come to terms with the tragic loss
