A tipper truck driver and his mate have been electrocuted at Bokankye in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District while offloading sand.

The two, who are yet to be identified, were operators of a sand-winning truck with registration number GR 483-24.

Confirming the incident to OTEC News reporter Kwame Agyenim Boateng, Assembly Member for the Owabi Electoral Area, Hon. Osei Kwame Malik, said the tragedy occurred on Wednesday, June 10, 2026.

He explained that the accident happened when the truck’s bucket came into contact with a high-tension cable belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana.

According to Hon. Malik:

“They were offloading sand when the bucket of the truck touched a high tension pole belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana. The driver was the first to scream, so the driver’s mate rushed to open the door but he was electrocuted on the spot.”

The Assembly Member said the driver was later rushed to hospital but was pronounced dead by doctors on arrival.

The bodies of both men have since been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital morgue for preservation and identification.

Police in the area have taken over the matter and commenced investigations into the incident.

Hon. Osei Kwame Malik is urging sand and gravel operators to exercise caution and avoid offloading under power lines.

“We will engage ECG and the drivers to educate them on safety. These high-tension lines are dangerous and must be treated with care,” he added.
