Bosomtwe DCE calls for ban on mining in two districts to protect Lake Bosomtwe

The District Chief Executive for Bosomtwe in the Ashanti Region, Hon. Abdulai Hamidu, has called for two districts to be declared no-mining zones to protect Lake Bosomtwe.
According to him, one of the best ways to protect the lake is to totally bar any form of mining in the two host districts, Bosomtwe and Bosomefreho.
Speaking to OTEC News reporter Kwame Agyenim Boateng on Monday, the DCE said he and his colleague at Bosomefreho are sending a petition to that effect to the Ashanti Regional Minister for onward transmission to the President.
“We are pleading with the President to declare the two districts as a restricted zone for any form of mining activity to safeguard the lake,” he said.
“Other than that, some individuals under the pretext of illegal mining will end up destroying the lake.”
He called for collective efforts from stakeholders to ensure the lake is protected from destruction.
