No galamsey around Lake Bosomtwe’ – Bosomtwe DCE insists

The District Chief Executive for Bosomtwe, Abdulai Hamidu, says there are no activities of illegal mining around Lake Bosomtwe.

According to him, the recent illegal mining activities being tackled are from Beposo, a community which is 15 kilometers away from the lake.

Speaking to OTEC News reporter Kwame Agyenim Boateng on Monday, the DCE said dozens of excavators have been seized by authorities as part of efforts to halt galamsey in the area.

“We have some 20 communities around the lake and I can say for a fact that no form of illegal mining is happening in any of these communities,” he said.

“Even the Beposo community we are talking about has been a mining community for years. However, we are there because our intelligence found out there were some illegal activities there.”

He noted that the excavators seized have been sent to the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council, with investigations ongoing to punish the suspects.

He pledged that the assembly will do everything possible to protect the lake from any illegal activities.
