Abuakwa South MP condemns Kyebi Zongo shooting, demands transparent investigation

The Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South, Dr. Kingsley Agyemang, has condemned the shooting of a young man during an alleged confrontation between some youth and military personnel at Kyebi Zongo, describing the incident as deeply unfortunate and calling for a thorough, impartial and transparent investigation.

In a statement issued on Sunday, July 12, 2026, the MP said his office had taken note of a viral video circulating on social media, which reportedly captured the incident that occurred on Saturday, July 11, 2026. The confrontation is said to have resulted in the shooting and injury of a young man, who is currently receiving treatment at the Kyebi Government Hospital.
Dr. Agyemang expressed concern over the incident, stressing that violence has no place in the constituency.
“I am deeply saddened by this development and wish to unequivocally condemn every form of violence and brutality that endangers the lives and safety of the people of Abuakwa South,” he stated.
While noting that the full circumstances surrounding the incident are yet to be officially established, the legislator said no community should be subjected to such distressing events.
“While the full facts surrounding the incident are yet to be officially established, no community should have to witness such unfortunate scenes,” he said.
The MP extended his sympathies to the injured victim and wished him a speedy recovery.
“On behalf of the good people of Abuakwa South, I extend my heartfelt wishes for his full and speedy recovery,” Dr. Agyemang said.
He also appealed to residents, particularly the youth, to remain calm and avoid actions that could escalate tensions while investigations are underway.
“I wish to appeal to all residents of Abuakwa South, particularly the youth, to remain calm, exercise restraint and allow the appropriate state institutions to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident,” he urged.
Dr. Agyemang further called on the country’s security agencies to carry out a comprehensive, independent and transparent probe into the matter to establish the facts and ensure accountability.
“I also call on the relevant security authorities to conduct a thorough, impartial and transparent investigation to establish the facts and ensure that justice is served,” he emphasized.
Reaffirming his commitment to maintaining peace in the constituency, the Abuakwa South MP pledged to engage all relevant stakeholders to preserve law and order.
“As Member of Parliament, I remain committed to engaging all relevant stakeholders to ensure that peace, law and order prevail within our constituency. Let us remain united, protect one another, and work together in the interest of Abuakwa South,” he added.
