Ahafo Ano South: One injured in alleged shooting by illegal chainsaw operators at Abesewa forest

One person is seriously injured after an alleged shooting incident involving suspected illegal chainsaw operators at the Abesewa Forest in the Ahafo Ano South East District of the Ashanti Region.

Eyewitness innan interview with OTEC News Reporter Kwame Agyenim Boateng on Monday said incident occurred  at Abesewa and involved workers of Next Door Farms.

The company reportedly obtained a concession from the Forestry Commission to plant trees in the forest as part of a reforestation initiative.

According to an eyewitness , after the company planted the trees, some illegal chainsaw operators allegedly entered the forest and began cutting down the newly planted trees.

The eyewitness said officials and workers of Next Door Farms went into the forest to confront the illegal operators.

Upon reaching the area, the suspects allegedly opened fire on them.  One worker of Next Door Farms was hit and sustained serious injuries.

He is currently receiving treatment at the Tepa Government Hospital.

Meanwhile, two individuals believed to be part of the group of illegal operators have been arrested and are being held at the Tepa Divisional Police Station as investigations continue.

Authorities say they will investigate the matter and ensure the perpetrators face justice.
