Obuasi SHTS headmaster rushed to KATH after student attack; school faces closure – MCE
The headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School has been hospitalised with a suspected skull fracture after he was attacked by students during unrest at the school, as authorities consider temporarily closing the institution to restore order.
Police intervened on Tuesday night to rescue headmaster Abdulai Zakaria after students allegedly assaulted him during disturbances on the school campus.
The circumstances that triggered the violence were not immediately clear, and police have launched investigations into the incident.
Some students were arrested during the unrest, according to local reports.

Obuasi Municipal Chief Executive Faustilove Appiah Kannin said Zakaria was initially admitted to the AngloGold Ashanti Hospital in Obuasi before being transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi for specialist treatment.
“He has a fracture in the head. And that is why he has been rushed to Komfo Anokye,” she said in an interview on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Wednesday.
The MCE said municipal authorities were awaiting a full briefing from the police before determining what led to the attack.

She said police had restored calm on the campus and officers remained deployed at the school to maintain security.
“At the moment, everything is calm. We are having a meeting this morning before we go to the school to see how the situation is,” Appiah Kannin said.
Municipal authorities are expected to assess the security situation before deciding whether the school should remain open.
Possible closure
The MCE said one option under consideration is to temporarily close the school and send students home while investigations continue, although no final decision has been taken.
“We may take a decision maybe to let them go home for now while investigation is going on,” she said.
Appiah Kannin said authorities were still gathering information and could not immediately confirm what sparked the unrest or the sequence of events leading to the attack.
Police investigations are ongoing, with further updates expected after officials complete their assessment of the school.
