Accra-Kumasi Expressway: GAF to hand over 175.6km right-of-way on Monday
A 175.6-kilometre right-of-way cleared by the Ghana Armed Forces for the Accra-Kumasi Expressway is set to be formally handed over to the government on Monday, September 14, paving the way for construction of thestated that the cleared right-of-way will pave the way for the major road project.
President John Dramani Mahama is expected to receive the cleared right-of-way at Kwaso, near Ejisu, in a ceremony marking a major step towards the construction of the 198.7-kilometre expressway.
He explained that a right-of-way refers to the total width of land legally acquired and reserved for the construction, operation, maintenance and future expansion of a road or highway.
The 175.6-kilometre stretch was cleared by the 48 Engineer Regiment of the Ghana Armed Forces ahead of the construction of the expressway.
According to Mr Kwakye Ofosu, the project represents the single largest capital investment by any government in the history of Ghana.
The formal handover is expected to pave the way for construction works on the major road project, which is intended to improve connectivity between Accra and Kumasi.
