Energy expert explains brain behind gov’t decision to reduce diesel price by GH¢2 per litre

Energy Expert Sampson Addai has explained the brain behind government’s decision to reduce diesel price by GH¢2 per litre.

According to him, government took the decision as a move to cushion transport operators and reduce their operational cost.

Speaking to OTEC News’ Dr. Cash on the Dwabrem show on Monday, he said the move was to check a planned increase in transport fares by the operators.

Government has extended its GH¢2 per litre reduction in the regulatory margin on diesel into the first pricing window of September, in a move aimed at cushioning consumers against rising fuel prices.

The reduction, which was introduced as a temporary measure covering two pricing windows, was originally expected to expire at the end of August.

However, government has decided to maintain the reduction for at least one additional pricing window, preventing the full regulatory margin from being restored to the price of diesel.

He emphasized that the move may not be sustainable, calling on government to come up with more sustainable solutions.
