Military, police reportedly take over Northern Ashanti Mines; staff ordered to leave

A contingent of military and police personnel has reportedly taken control of the premises of Northern Ashanti Mines at Konongo in the Ashanti Region, with staff allegedly directed to vacate the facility with immediate effect.

The operation reportedly began at dawn on Thursday, October 22, 2026, with the mining company said to be under siege.

The circumstances surrounding the reported operation, including the authority under which the security personnel are acting and the reasons for the directive to staff, remain unclear.

The development comes amid controversy surrounding mining interests associated with Ghanaian mining entrepreneur Angela List, following reports of an unsuccessful attempt to take over the operations of Adamus Resources, another mining company associated with her.

It is not yet clear whether the reported operation at Northern Ashanti Mines is connected to the developments involving Adamus Resources.

Northern Ashanti Mines has previously raised concerns about illegal mining activities on its concession at Konongo and called for stronger security measures to protect its workers and operations.

Citi Newsroom is seeking clarification from the management of Northern Ashanti Mines, the Ghana Armed Forces, the Ghana Police Service and the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources regarding the operation.
