Metro Education Directorate Honors Sam Pyne, Others For Showing Interest In Education

The Ghana Education Service (GES) through its Metro Education Directorate on Friday honored the Mayor of Kumasi, Hon Samuel Pyne for consciously leading the KMA to invest into all aspects of education in the metropolis. 

They also commended the Mayor for showing commitment to seeing better learning outcomes in schools in Kumasi.

Addresing participants at the 2023 Metro Best Teacher and Schools Awards at the Kumasi Anglican Secondary School on the theme, “The Role Of Teaching In Transforming Education”, Mr David Oppong, Kumasi Metro Education Director praised the KMA boss for his personal show of interest in everything education.

“The Mayor has shown great commitment to education including carrying out investments into infrastructure, sponsoring mock exams for all schools in the five sub-metros as well as ensuring good environments for teaching and learning in schools”, Mr Oppong noted.

Kumasi Mayor:

Addressing participants, Hon. Samuel Pyne commended the GES for the initiative, adding that the Teacher and School Awards serve as motivation to stakeholders in the Educational sector.

He therefore urged stakeholders need to support the initiative aimed at motivating teachers to effectively and efficiently discharge their roles and responsibilities towards high quality education and transformation.

The unwavering dedication and passion of teachers has laid the foundation for a brighter future and that their efforts have ensured that the metropolis can boast of the best schools in the country including the yearly exceptional performances in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and West African Examination Council (WAEC) results as well as the National Science and Maths Quiz, the Mayor noted.

“I entreat teachers to come together and forge ahead to create a future where education is a beacon of empowerment since you were revered as the architects of transformation”, Hon Pyne stated.

Award Recipients:

Some hardworking teachers and schools received citations and other prizes including microwave ovens, table-top refrigerators, LED televisions among others. 

However, the 2023 overall Metro Best Teacher award was given to Madam Ophelia Okai Wireko, a teacher at State experimental KG who took home a plaque and an AKAI Chest-freezer.

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly also received a Certificate for sponsoring the 2023 Metro Best Teacher Awards.

Chairman:

The Chairman for the ceremony Asemhene, Nana Kyei Baffour commended the GES for the Teacher Awards and recognition. 

He urged them to keep to high standards so that products from Kumasi Metro schools would still be the best in the country.
