Election 2024:  GUM picks business woman and gender activist as running mate

A 53 year old business woman and a gender activist, Evelyn Serwaa Bonsu, has been selected as the vice presidential candidate for the Ghana Union Movement (GUM).

She is to partner the leader and founder of the party Rev Christian Kwabena Andrews for the 2024 presidential elections scheduled for December 7.

Evelyn Serwaa Bonsu, the mother of three who hails from the Ashanti region was outdoored during the launching of the party’s manifesto in Accra on Saturday.

The presidential candidate of GUM, Rev Christian Kwabena Andrews, during the outdooring noted that the choice of Evelyn Serwaa Bonsu as the party’s vice presidential candidate was unanimously accepted by the National Executives of the party.

Bringing her on board according to the leader and founder, was her passion in fostering sustainable economic growth and industrialization by reviving all Kwame Nkrumah factories.

“She aims to leverage her knowledge and experience to drive positive change in Ghana, advocating for inclusive policies for women, poverty alleviation, and coordination of international investment to Ghana,” he told the party supporters.”

In her acceptance speech Evelyn Serwaa Bonsu promised to invest in girl-child education at the post-secondary level to promote gender equity.

She added that “GUM will invest in healthcare, education, particularly for girls pursuing post-secondary education, and infrastructure to create jobs and stimulate growth.”

To make sure that the country’s resources benefit all citizens, she said “we will tackle corruption, ensure accountability; even among the appointees of our next government.”

Evelyn Serwaa Bonsu ending her address appealed to Ghanaian to support GUM’s presidential candidate Rev Christian Kwabena Andrews and the party to bring back their “lost hope”by voting them into government in the December 7 polls.
