National Service Persons Walk For Peace In Ashanti

Members of the National Service Persons Association (NASPA) drawn from Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the Ashanti Region have embarked on a peaceful march ahead of the December 7 polls.
Starting from the Bantama Branch of the Church of Pentecost on Friday, scores of the association’s members walked from the precincts of the church through to the streets of Bantama.
Meandering their way through to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital roundabout the NASPA members took the kejetia route and walked across the streets of the Roman Hill and used the adjoining stretch to the Asafo Market.
From the Asafo Market, the members used the Labour Roundabout and made their way to the Jubilee Park in Kumasi where they assembled to listen to personalities invited to address them.

Speaking to this reporter earlier, Yaa Tweneboah Opoku Bandoh, President of the Ashanti Regional National Service Persons Association (NASPA) said the walk was being used to drum home the need for people in the region to conduct themselves peacefully before, during and after the December 7 elections.
She noted that there can be no proper development when there is chaos arising out of elections.
According to her, democracy offers the opportunity to people to use the ballot box to choose who should lead the country peacefully.
“Elections are means to determine who the people want to lead as President and members of Parliament and this activity does not need the deployment of violence but sobriety”, the NASPA President stated.
Public Relations Officer:
On his part, Mr Emmanuel Tweneboah Kodua, Ashanti Regional Public Relations Officer for the NSA thanked the NASPA members for turning out in their numbers to undertake the walk.
“I urge you to return to your respective MMDAs as well as outfits and become ambassadors of peace ahead of the December 7 elections”, the PRO appealed.
Regional NSA Director:
Mr Prince Kankam Boadu, the Ashanti Regional Director for the National Service Authority (NSA) commended the NASPA members for undertaking such a useful exercise.
He stated that there could be no meaningful development when there is no peace in the country.
The Director said inculcating this into the citizenry through the Walk For Peace was important.
“I commend you for initiating and carrying out this walk through your own efforts and resources and i believe telling people that they need to conduct themselves peacefully before, during and after the upcoming elections was a useful venture”, Mr Boadu stressed.
