Suspected armed robbers attack miners near Nyinahin; one critically injured

Suspected armed robbers attacked a group of miners along the Kotokuom road near Nyinahin in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region on Tuesday, April 15, 2025.

The incident occurred around 9:00 p.m., leaving one miner critically injured.

According to reports, the assailants—believed to be operating within the area—robbed the miners of cash and mobile phones during the attack.

One of the victims, 26-year-old Michael Larry, sustained a gunshot wound to his leg. He was initially rushed to the Nkawie Community Hospital but was later referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi due to the severity of his injuries.

Speaking to Citi News, the victim’s brother, Stanley Obeng Larry, confirmed the incident and raised concerns about the increasing insecurity in the area.

In response to the attack, residents have appealed to the police to increase patrols along the Kotokuom–Nyinahin road to help curb the rising threat of armed robbery targeting miners and commuters.
