Galamsey: Banning any form of mining will collapse gold industry, economy – Small Scale Miners
The Ghana National Association of Small Scale Miners has cautioned the government that imposing a ban on any form of mining would have devastating effects on the gold industry and the country’s economy.

According to the association, Ghana’s economic progress is heavily reliant on the mining sector, and therefore, the government should focus on addressing the challenges rather than halting mining activities entirely.
Speaking on the Kumasi-based OTEC 102.9 FM’s afternoon political show “Dwabrem” on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, hosted by Prince Nii Ardey aka Dr cash, the General Secretary of the association, Michael Adugyamfi, emphasized the need for a collaborative effort to streamline mining activities.
He noted that the government has acknowledged the significant impact of small-scale miners on the country’s economy and the gold industry, and therefore, expects a more cooperative approach.
While the association is strongly against illegal mining, Adugyamfi stressed that assisting and educating those engaging in illegal mining activities is crucial to solving the problem.
He reiterated that the association is committed to supporting the government in halting illegal mining but warned that any attempt to ban mining entirely would be met with resistance.
