Strengthen community security to curb Killings – Dr. Addai Amanfo urges Interior Ministry

Dr. Barnabas Addai Amanfo, Lecturer at AAMUSTED
A lecturer at the Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training & Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED), Dr. Barnabas Addai Amanfo, has called on the Ministry of the Interior to intensify security operations in communities across the country to address the recent surge in killings.
Speaking in response to growing public anxiety over the increasing spate of murders, Dr. Addai Amanfo stressed the need for more visible security presence, particularly in rural areas where many of the recent killings have occurred.
“We must not allow fear to take over our communities. The Interior Ministry must ensure the police are seen and felt at the grassroots level,” he said.
Dr. Barnabas Addai Amanfo made the call during a panel discussion on Otec FM’s morning show “Nyansapo” hosted by Kwaku Owusu Boateng on Tuesday, July 22, 2025.
Enhance police capability
Dr. Barnabas Addai Amanfo emphasized that the Ghana Police Service must be adequately resourced and equipped with modern intelligence tools to effectively prevent and investigate such crimes.
According to him, enhancing police capability in intelligence gathering is crucial to addressing the disturbing trend.
Public active role
Dr. Barnabas Addai Amanfo also encouraged the public to play an active role by reporting suspicious individuals and activities to the police without fear of victimization.
“Security is a shared responsibility. When residents work closely with the police, crime can be reduced drastically,” he noted.
Collective effort needed
He further urged community members to consider setting up and supporting local watchdog groups to protect lives and properties, especially in areas where state security presence is limited.
Dr. Barnabas Amanfo said such grassroots efforts could complement government action in maintaining safety and peace.
