The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has approved an amendment to its statutes, extending the presidential term limit from two to three terms.
The decision was taken during the Association’s 31st Ordinary Congress held in Prampram. Mandated by Article 31(2) of the GFA Statutes (2019), the Congress is held annually before the start of the football season to review progress, present financial and activity reports, and set strategic directions for the sport in Ghana.
The 2025 Congress brought together delegates from all 124 member bodies to deliberate on key governance issues.
The approved amendment, which aligns with statutes of FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF), will allow a GFA president to serve for a maximum of three four-year terms, totalling 12 years.
According to the GFA, the change aims to promote stability and continuity in leadership, enabling the implementation of long-term development strategies.
The reform, reportedly endorsed by FIFA, could directly affect current GFA President Kurt Okraku, who is in his second term with two years remaining.
