Ashanti Region: Over hundred illegal miners arrested in joint Military-Police swoop

Over a hundred men have been arrested by the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Armed Forces in a joint operation at Dadwene, a farming community near Obuase in the Ashanti Region.

The suspects, mostly youth, were arrested on Wednesday, November 12, 2025.

This comes after the Ghana Police Service announced a special operation in parts of the country, including the Ashanti Region.

Speaking to OTEC News Reporter Kwame Agyenim Boateng, Government Appointee at the Adanse Fomena District, John Mensah confirmed the arrest, saying, “We woke up only for the security officers to arrest our men for no offense.”

“We are concerned about the manner in which the arrests were made, without any explanation,” he added.

“Two of Mensah’s sons were among those arrested, and he said he has been told they are being sent to Kumasi” .

Community leaders are meeting with the District Chief Executive for the area to get a proper briefing on the situation..
